Hebrews 11:1
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Faith is confidence in what God did for me and what He will do in, through and for me now and in the future. For many it is easy to have confidence in what Christ did for me at Calvary. By faith I accept His death, burial and resurrection as payment for my sin.

But for most that’s where our faith makes an abrupt halt. When it comes to our everyday walk in this world, we take life into our own hands. This is called doubt. Doubt can be defined in this context as rebellion against God. When I decide to trust my ways over God’s truth, then I am rebelling against God.

We are creatures who tend to make decisions based on comfort (this leads to some very bad decisions). How many times have we heard a Christian say, “I have a job opportunity that pays more money, it must be God’s will for me to take it.” Well, it’s certainly the comfortable path. When we make decisions based on God’s Word, prayer, the prompting of the Holy Spirit, and wise counsel, the answer we get may be uncomfortable, but here’s the great part. When we take that uncomfortable step of obedience in God’s direction, the Holy Spirit will comfort us. That should sound familiar. When Christ left this world, He told His disciples that the Comforter would come to them. Why? Because walking by faith is uncomfortable. Yet, many of us will rarely experience this great comfort because of doubt. Oh, we’re saved and going to heaven, yet our Christian life on earth seems empty and unfulfilled because we live it in the comfort of fleshly decisions.

Ephesians 2:10
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

Let’s be upfront and honest, if we are not actively involved in service which brings sinners to Christ or builds up the body of Christ through teaching or discipleship, are we actually fulfilling God’s purpose in our lives?

In Ephesians 2, the transformation from what we were (2:2) to what we are (2:10) is powerful. It is obvious that God has a plan for each believer’s life—for your life. We are this “project” that has been created newly in Christ. The purpose? We should do good works. There have been many discussions about liberty. The argument is that the details of life are no longer dictated by the law. Supposedly, the believer has the freedom to choose to do anything based on their “liberty.” This verse and many others show that this concept is not entirely accurate. There is no cavalier, free-spirit concept here. We are designed for a purpose. The actions of your life may not be dictated by the Law, but they are dictated by God’s work of righteousness in you (4:24)! God is working in our life unto good works through the washing of the Word (1 Thessalonians 2:13), the power of prayer (Ephesians 3:20), and even through suffering (1 Peter 4).

Back to the first question…in order to be clear, singing in the choir is wonderful, especially if God has given you the talent. Working in the nursery is so needful. However, are you more concerned with what you think you have license to do rather than what you were designed to do? When is the last time Matthew 5:16 was true of your life?

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your GOOD WORKS, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

1 Peter 4:19
“Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.”

Our countries economic instability is quite the buzz in the news, blogs, and Facebook. People base their security on a variety of things whether its the bank, precious metals, even stockpiling seeds. However, there is not a safer place to commit your soul than in the hands of God.

Notice, first, that the suffering is during the act of duty. It’s important to differentiate between suffering we bring on ourselves because of our cocky attitude or laziness, and suffering because it is the will of God. And when that time of suffering comes, we can deposit our souls in God’s care. No government, no friend, no strategic planning can ever compare to the safety with God. The way we commit is by doing well. When we always do what God desires and do not react and take the situation in our hands to make it right, we are basically letting go of the control and letting God be God. This is something that must be done daily. We might get tired of waiting, but let go and let God. We might hurt, but let go and let God.

Christians need to realize that the evolutionary theory steals more away from our beliefs than we realize. Notice that Peter doesn’t say “commit to a faithful God” or “commit to a faithful Savior.” He claims the power of Creator. If God had enough wisdom and power to provide us with everything we needed “in the beginning,” then He certainly can provide now. If God can bring everything out of nothing, then He can certainly work in our situation outside the bounds of the temporal and in the realm of the miraculous. Evolution steals away our fundamental trust in a truly all-powerful God.

This is a lesson to teach to the next generation now, for it is uncertain how long we, in the U.S., may continue to enjoy such religious freedom. Make it a daily habit now to commit everything to God.

Psalm 81:10
“I am the LORD thy God, Which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.”

Jeremiah 33:3
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

Our infinite, almighty God is able to give great answers to prayer! God delights to answer prayers for big things, because He is not only infinite and almighty God, but He is the loving Father of His children. Isaiah 59:1 “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear.” God is able; God is willing.

God invites and commands us to ask big things. Remember God brought his children out of the land of Egypt. He opened the Red Sea. He caused the people to cross the flooded Jordan on dry ground. He caused the walls of Jericho to fall down flat. He is as willing now to do such mighty wonders as He was then. He is still the same kind of God. He can still do mighty works if people will believe Him. People like George Muller, who received over 7 million dollars without ever asking a man for money. All of it was received in answer of prayer.Read: Matthew 17:20; 21:21-22; Mark 9:23, 11:22-24; Ephesians 3:20-21Nothing is impossible to those who pray in faith! What an encouragement to ask for mighty things from God! The Bible is a book of marvelous answers to prayer, of a big faith, of a great God!
