Everybody Needs Somebody

Everybody Needs Somebody

“No man is an island,” is the opening line of the poem, “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” by John Donne. That very often quoted phrase means that “no one is truly self-sufficient, everyone must rely on the company and comfort of others in order to thrive.” God didn’t put any of us on an island all by our self, and no one is meant to go thru life alone. Our life as Christians is to be lived out with others. Listed here are a few Bible verses to remind us of our responsibility to reach out to others.

“Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.” (Proverbs 3:27)
“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” (Philippians 2:4)
“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2)
“But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?” (1 John 3:17)

God admonishes us to help one another. After all, isn’t that what Jesus spent his time on earth doing? If we’re selfless and focus on helping others instead of ourselves, then we will be living more like Jesus.

The Christmas season can be a difficult time for many people. Some have lost a loved one this past year, others have been thru a divorce, and some are facing financial hardships. Will you pray that God will lead you to a person who needs some help and encouragement? For those of you who are hurting yourself, you too need to reach out to help someone. Focusing on others and not on your own difficulties is good medicine for a hurting soul. The best way to experience the joy of this wonderful season is to reach out in love to someone. After all, “everybody needs somebody!”

“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.” (John 15:12)
