Praise God!

Praise God!

How often do you praise God? Think about it for a minute. How often do you actually praise God?

We spend so much time asking God to do things—asking Him to heal our relative, asking Him to provide our financial need, asking Him to save our neighbor, asking Him to forgive us again, asking Him to help us make the right decision for our family, asking Him to watch over the missionaries we support, and the list can go and on. These are all good things to pray for, and God does want us to come to Him boldly with our requests (Hebrews 4:16), but we should remember to praise Him and thank Him for who He is and for what He’s done.

When was the last time you set aside time in your busy day to talk to God and praise Him for who He is without asking for anything? When was the last time you personally worshipped God on your own?

Sometimes, I challenge myself to pray only praises to God, and I unfortunately find it difficult to do so for more than 30 seconds. I praise Him for a few of His characteristics, then my mind goes blank and eventually wanders to the needs that I have that day or to the tasks I need to get done that day. Our view of God is one of the most important things about us. If we struggle to describe who God is, then that means we truly don’t know Him well enough. We need to get back in the Word and read more about Him! Read about what He’s done! Think about what He’s done in your life! If we are thriving and growing in our walk with Him, praising God should come naturally to us, both in prayer and in song. Take some time today to praise God!

“All my life You have been faithful. All my life You have been so so good. With every breath that I am able, oh, I will sing of the goodness of God!”
