Originally from upstate New York, James Koerts studied church music at Bob Jones University. While in college he joined a student-organized men’s quartet, which traveled and ministered in churches on the weekends. This gave James the chance to use his keyboard artistry in local churches, as well as write and arrange music for the group. It was also at college where his first arrangement was published.
James served in the music ministry of Victory Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida for seven years. While there, he gained valuable experience ministering in the church, as well as the Christian day school where he directed junior high and high school choirs and band, and maintained a full studio of piano students. It was while there that his love for choral directing and arranging began to grow. James has choir and instrumental music published with Alfred, Hal Leonard, Lorenz, and other publishers. He has also been privileged to be a part of several recording projects.
James and his family joined the Mikado team in 2007. With an emphasis on congregational singing and dynamic worship services, James desires to effectively communicate spiritual truths through vibrant and heart-felt music. James is married to Beth and they have four children: Michael, Katelyn, Daniel, and Jacob. They live in Warner Robins, just south of Macon, and enjoy everything from sports, fishing trips, and vacation adventures, to music recitals, concerts, and a good family movie.
