Have you ever felt overwhelmed?
Maybe it was by what was expected of you. Maybe it was the situation you found yourself in. Maybe it was simply life during hard times.
Sometimes when we get overwhelmed, we forget how big God is
A.W. Tozer
In my life there have been many times when I felt completely overwhelmed with what was expected of me. God’s calling on my life, my first ministry, the birth of my children. In these times I will often find myself frantically searching for the lifeline. A.W. Tozer discusses this feeling when he said, “Sometimes when we get overwhelmed, we forget how big God is.”
THAT IS IT! That’s the issue I run into. My issues, problems, trials and expectations seem overwhelming because I am limited. I only have so much time, energy and wisdom for the day/week. I will do my best, but often I come to the end of myself and I have fallen short.
However, when I get to this point in my life, I have forgotten one of the best parts of my relationship with God. You see, it is when I am weak that God shows Himself strong (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).
I serve a God who not only cares about my situation, but He already knows it completely.
Psalm 139:1-3 O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
As I come to that realization, I am also comforted by the fact that my God is not limited like I am and wants to provide rest and comfort in my time of need.
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
As I find that comfort in my God who cares I dwell with Him and He renews my strength so I can continue on this journey without failing at the end of myself.
Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Have you forgotten how BIG your God is? Life gets busy, hard and just plain overwhelming at times. But our God will never change (James 1:17). So, what do we do when life becomes overwhelming? Follow the instructions Paul gives in Philippians 4:6-7. Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
When life gets you down, lift your eyes to see the one who is waiting to lift you.
