Ways to Serve at Mikado
As you can see, there are tons of ways for you to be involved at Mikado! Find a ministry that fits your schedule and skill sets, attend the Turning Point class after joining Mikado, and then get plugged in.
Service Opportunities
KIDZ TREK
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Runners – people to assist during the worship hour
- Helpers – people in place to sit with children and assist
KIDS & JUNIOR CHOIR
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Helpers – teens or adults able to attend kids or junior choir on Sunday nights during the service to help ensure good behavior, participation, and attention
- Accompanists – anyone with moderate piano experience interested in accompanying the choirs for practices and potentially performances
ORCHESTRA
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Men, women, and teens willing to use their musical ability for the Lord. Must have at least one year of proficiency on their instrument, be able to attend all Wednesday PM practices, and be committed to playing each time the orchestra is part of the service
- Instrumental Soloists & Ensemble Participants – men or women willing to take an additional step in using their voices for worship. Must be choir members with competent vocal experience
SOUND BOOTH
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Sound Operators – men willing to be on a rotation to operate the sound board during services Training will be provided, but must be faithful to attend services and pay attention to details
- Media Shout Operators – men willing to control the Media Shout service presentation during services Training will be provided, but must be faithful to attend services and pay attention to details
LIVESTREAM
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Camera Operator – men or women willing to sit behind an auditorium camera during Sunday AM services to capture livestream footage
- Computer Operator – men or women willing to monitor the livestream footage from the computer perspective during the Sunday AM service
UPWARD SOCCER
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Coaches – men or women willing to be in charge of a team to lead it in practices, devotions, and games
- Assistant Coaches – men or women willing to assist the head coach in practices, devotions, and games
- Referees – anyone willing to commit their Saturday mornings to officiating the Upward soccer games
- Vendors – men or women willing to help with the food services provided at Upward games
- Facilities/Equipment Help – anyone willing to give an extra hand with all the moving parts of Upward Soccer
- Field Maintenance – anyone willing to help Rick Stevens in the preparation and maintenance of our quality soccer field
UPWARD BASKETBALL
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Coaches – men or women willing to be in charge of a team to lead it in practices, devotions, and games
- Assistant Coaches – men or women willing to assist the head coach in practices, devotions, and games
- Referees – anyone willing to commit their Saturday mornings to officiating the Upward basketball games
- Vendors – men or women willing to help with the food services provided at Upward games
- Facilities/Equipment Help – anyone willing to give an extra hand with all the moving parts of Upward Basketball
CHOIR
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Choir – Men and women willing to use their voices for the Lord and develop musical ability. Must be able to attend Wednesday PM practices and be committed to singing each service the choir is a part of
- Soloists & Ensemble Participants – men or women willing to take an additional step in using their voices for worship. Must be choir members with competent vocal experience
- Accompanist – keyboard player willing to attend extra rehearsals, work with vocalists/instrumentalists, and occasionally perform solo material for offertories
ORCHESTRA
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:

ACADEMY OF MUSIC
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Instructors – we are seeking instructors of brass, woodwind, strings, voice, guitar, and percussion who adhere to our statement of faith and have a superior skill on their instrument
SOUND BOOTH
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Sound Operators – members willing to be on a rotation to operate the sound board during services. Training will be provided, but must be faithful to attend services and pay attention to details.
- Presentation and Lights Operators – members willing to control the service presentation software and lights during services. Training will be provided, but must be faithful to attend services and pay attention to details.
LIVESTREAM
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Camera Operator – members willing to sit behind an auditorium camera during Sunday AM services to capture livestream footage
- Computer Operator – members willing to monitor the livestream footage from the computer perspective during the service
AWANA
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Leaders – hand selected from helpers to oversee various aspects of Awana and influence kids from a leadership position
- Helpers – interact with kids by listening to verses and encouraging them to grow spiritually, emotionally, and socially
KIDZ TREK
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Teachers – people on rotation prepared to give a lesson to children Kidz Trek
- Runners – people to assist during the worship hour
- Helpers – people in place to sit with children and attend to any needs they may have
THE BRIDGE
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Teachers – men available to teach once a month on either a Sunday morning at 10:00 or Wednesday night at 6:45
- Helpers – men or women available to sit with Bridge kids on Sunday mornings or Wednesday nights to influence and assist them
- Hosts – anyone willing to host quarterly activities in their home for 5th and 6th graders

- Helpers – teens or adults able to attend kids or junior choir on Sunday nights during the service to help ensure good behavior, participation, and attention

NURSERY
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Scheduled volunteers – teen girls or women willing to be placed on a rotating schedule to help children in the nursery
- Substitute volunteers – teen girls or women willing to be placed on an “on-call” list for when a scheduled volunteer is unable to be on her shift

EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:

LIFE GROUPS
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Teachers – ladies or married couples willing to be placed on a rotating schedule (bi-weekly) to teach the K5 and 3rd grade Sunday school classes. All teachers must faithfully attend Mikado and will be chosen by the pastoral staff.
MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL MINISTRIES
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Drivers – men or women willing to attend activities and transport teens on the church van or bus. Must have CDL if operating bus
- Summer Sponsors – men or women willing to help sponsor teen activities during the summer months
- Cooks – men or women willing to provide food for teen events by opening their home for a meal or cooking for an activity
- Renovators – men with construction experience willing to help with renovation projects in the MSM & HSM room, the hydrate café, and/or pallet walls
- Hosts – anyone willing to open their home for a teen activity
- Work Providers – anyone willing to pay a Mikado teenager to work for them on a personal project. All money will go towards the teenager’s camp or missions trip bill
- Donors – anyone willing to donate money towards a teens camp/missions bill or the teen renovations
- 2018 Missions Trip Sponsors – anyone interested in participating in the 2018 missions trip as a sponsor
COLLEGE MINISTRY
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Co-Laborers – a married couple willing to help lead the college ministry during Sunday school, Wednesday night Bible study, monthly meals, and activities. Must be committed to Sunday school, Wednesday nights, and activities.
- Hosts – people or families willing to plan and host a college activity or meal in their home or at church
- Drivers – volunteers willing to transport students from the Mercer campus to Mikado and back again. Single drivers would not be allowed to ride alone with someone of the opposite gender.
UNITE
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Teens, young men and women, or families willing to “adopt” an older person they can periodically reach out to and encourage
SENIOR SAINTS
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Hospital Follow Ups – people to help with periodic follow up on those who are in the hospital
- Visitors – people to help visit nursing home residents, shut-ins, and those in assisted living
- Drivers – people with a CDL drivers license to help drive the church bus for monthly activities
- Missionary Encouragers – people willing to email Mikado’s missionaries on a regular basis
DISCIPLESHIP
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- One-on-One Disciplers – men or women willing to disciple someone on a Sunday night from 5:10-5:40 using the “Seven Steps to Joy” curriculum
- Nursery Workers – women or high school girls willing to take care of a small group of children on Sunday nights from 5:10-5:40 during one-on-one discipleship
OUTREACH
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Door-knockers – men, women, or families willing to go door-to-door with Mikado’s Gospel tracts according to a schedule determined by them and the pastoral staff
- Visitors – volunteers to perform in-home visits according to a schedule determined by them and the pastoral staff
- Preparers – men or women willing to set up for Arise & Act outreach events
SECRETARIAL
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Envelope Fillers – men or women willing to come to the church when needed and stuff envelopes with letters, invites, etc. to be mailed out to our members or community
- On-Call Volunteers – men or women willing to be available whenever the church secretaries are in need of help for a specific project
SECURITY
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Men willing to secure the parking lot and building during services. Men are placed on teams, and those teams are scheduled according to a rotation
LOCK UP
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Men willing to remain behind after services to lock and alarm the building. Teams of volunteers will be compiled and placed onto a monthly rotation
USHERS
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Men willing to collect the offering, assist people to open seats, monitor auditorium distractions, and direct new mothers to the nurseries
GREETERS
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Men or women willing to be present in the church lobbies on rotation to give a friendly smile to everyone, hand out bulletins, and offer direction to guests
MAINTENANCE
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Men or women willing to stock envelopes and pens in the auditorium between Sunday services
- Men or women willing to straighten chairs and pick up trash in the auditorium between Sunday services
- Men or women willing to check bathrooms and trash between Sunday services
- Men willing to set up tables and chairs for Oasis Wednesday morning
- Men willing to empty trashcans from FLC kitchen following Oasis each Wednesday
- Men willing to place chair dollies in storage room after Oasis
- Men or women willing to sweep and mop Palmer Hall kitchen Wednesday or Thursday morning
EVENTS
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Oasis FLC set-up – assist with table and chair set up. Fill salt, pepper and napkin dispensers and place on tables
- Oasis host/hostess – watch for spills at drink tables and assist with trays being returned to kitchen, monitor running children, etc.
- Oasis clean-up team – remove drink urns, condiments, etc. from tables to kitchen, wash and put away all items used during Oasis
- Oasis servers – help serve Oasis meal (once a month or every other week)
- Events team member – assist with food prep, decorating, and/or serving/hostessing as needed for 2017 events
- Kitchen organizer – once a week (at your convenience) organize FLC and PH kitchen, wipe down surfaces, check drawers and cabinets for orderliness, and ensure kitchens have a general clean appearance
PARKING LOT
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Greeters – men or women willing to be a friendly presence in the parking lot to greet people, welcome them, and provide umbrellas during rainy weather
- Directors – men willing to be in the parking lot before and after services to direct people to a parking spot and monitor traffic safety
- Hosts – men or women willing to be at entrances before services to direct new visitors to where they need to go
CHOIR
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Choir – Men and women willing to use their voices for the Lord and develop musical ability. Must be able to attend Wednesday PM practices and be committed to singing each service the choir is a part of
- Senior Choir – Men or women ages 55 and up willing to meet each Tuesday at 11 AM to practice for a variety of performance opportunities in services and off campus
- Soloists & Ensemble Participants – men or women willing to take an additional step in using their voices for worship. Must be choir members with competent vocal experience
- Accompanist – keyboard player willing to attend extra rehearsals, work with vocalists/instrumentalists, and occasionally perform solo material for offertories
ORCHESTRA
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Men, women, and teens willing to use their musical ability for the Lord. Must have at least one year of proficiency on their instrument, be able to attend all Wednesday PM practices, and be committed to playing each time the orchestra is part of the service
- Instrumental Soloists & Ensemble Participants – men or women willing to take an additional step in using their voices for worship. Must be choir members with competent vocal experience
ACADEMY OF MUSIC
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Instructors – we are seeking instructors of brass, woodwind, strings, voice, guitar, and percussion who adhere to our statement of faith and have a superior skill on their instrument
- Secretary – person willing to assist the music pastor with the documentation of student enrollment, recruitment, retention, attendance records, and communication, along with any other music ministry related duties. This volunteer position will start at 4-8 hours per week with flexible hours and the potential of working from home
DRAMA
EXPLANATION OF NEEDS:
- Actors & Narrators – teens (7th grade and up) and adults willing to prepare for musicals, special services, and other events. Must be actively involved in church and show interest/ability in the drama arts. High levels of commitment to all rehearsals and applicable events are expected for all participants
